Item PSYCHO-SOCIAL CHALLENGES FACED BY EMPLOYED TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY(KINNAIRD COLLEGE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT, 0023-06-12) SYEDA MARIAM ARSHADThis study aimed to explore the psychological and social challenges faced by employed transgender community in Pakistan. A sample of four intersex individuals was approached through snow-ball sampling strategy. A qualitative research design was used and the data was collected primarily through the process of interviews in which interview guide was used as a research instrument for collecting the data that helped the researcher to investigate the intricate experiences of each transgender individual. Main themes were drawn from the collected information of the respondents and narrative analysis was done to make sense of the data. The results of the study indicated that almost all the participants encountered absurd societal behavior and faced inequity challenges during employment that resultantly had an adverse effect on their psychological health. Furthermore, the findings suggested various coping strategies that participants used in order to cope with undesirable circumstances and majority of them reported social support and use of optimistic self-talk as the most desirable coping mechanism. Findings have implications for future research direction in the area of employed transgender community.
