Item EXPLORING THE PHENOMENON OF GENDER IDENTITY AND GENDER EXPRESSION(KINNAIRE COLLEGE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT, 0023-05-17) ALIZEY MOBASSHARThis study aimed to explore the understanding of gender identity and gender expression, giving voice to individuals who have been marginalized by society. The study adopted a Constructivist research paradigm, which acknowledges that individuals construct their own knowledge and understanding of the world through experiences and reflection. A Phenomenological Research Design was used, specifically transcendental phenomenology, which seeks to uncover the underlying assumptions and beliefs that people hold about a particular phenomenon. The data was transcribed using thematic analysis. The study was conducted with informed consent, and the participants were kept anonymous to protect their privacy. The results of the study revealed five emerging themes: Realization of Gender Identity, Religion and Gender, Appearance and Gender, Mental Health and Gender Identity, and Masculinity and Femininity Paradox. The study suggests promoting greater awareness and understanding of gender nonconforming and genderqueer identities. This includes promoting education and awareness around gender diversity, and challenging gender norms and expectations that limit individuals' expression of their gender identity. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of gender identity and expression in a specific cultural context and provides insight into the challenges faced by individuals who do not conform to traditional gender norms.
