Abstract
Antenatal care is the type of care that is given by a healthcare professional/worker to a
woman during her pregnancy period. Antenatal care is quite worthy of attention when it
comes to pregnancy. Different healthcare workers present patients with various types of
precautions that are needed during this period. The aim of the research was to assess the
factors for late initiation of antenatal care. In-depth interviews were conducted in order to
collect data from 6 females. Women aged between 22-35 years were selected for the study.
Sample was recruited through purposive sampling. Interviews were transcribed and thematic
analysis was applied to generate and evaluate the results. 17 initial themes and 6 master
themes were extracted. Unsatisfactory maternity services nearby, lack of family/spouse
support, unplanned pregnancy and raised expenses occurring from maternity services were
the main themes that were concerning for every participant.
